Coco died on june 4th 2012 ,this is kind of late but I thught I needed to share. This is Coco's story

We got Coco in february from a family that did not want her anymore. We thought why should we get from a breeder when there are so many birds out there that need a home.Coco was my friend, she was such a clown and lively, and just a joy to live with.Coco appeared happy and healthy, but the truth was,she was not.One day in June she began to vomit and she got puffed up and would not eat and looked in a horrible condition. It was really late so we could not take her to the avian vet since they were closed this time of night.Since she looked horrible we decided that instead of waiting til morning we were gonna take her to an emergency veterinary clinic. We took her and we waited 5 hours before we got admitted. When the vet checked her out (not an avian vet ) he said that it was probably some kind of infection but he could not be sure.He gave us some antibiotic and so we went back home and the next day we booked an appointement to an avian vet for later in the week. She was on Baytril and she was back to normal for a bit.Although, the day before the avian vet she started to worsen. We took her to the avian vet and she concluded that Coco had some fluid in her crop,so they gave her a crop wash and examined the fluid to figure out what was wrong with her.The vet then told us that she has bacteria and fungus ,not much bacteria but she had a systematic fungal infection. They gave us new meds(Nystatin) but told us to continue the Baytril. The vet didnt think she was going to make it.The vet also gave us some baby mash because Coco was not eating. The vet said that if she lived until the repeat check up (5 days) days she would probably survive. I stayed home 5 days hand feeding her like a baby. She survived until the appointement and the vet said she had a high chance of surviving.2 days later it was time to take her off the Baytril (emerg vet med). She got so much worse, and the next day I also stayed home hand feeding her.She died in my arms that day.The sad thing was is that the day before she died she learned to say her name.We still dont know the cause of the infection, but we assume it was because her previous owners fed her some seed that contained unshelled peanuts and I have heard that peanut shells can contain a fungus.I was extremely sad for a lonnng time.We wanted to get a second bird but did not want a green cheek .It is extremely difficult living without birds if you have had them and loved them.I still remember when we bought a bunch of fruits and veggies, and I was relatively over it and then when I saw the fruits and veggies I burst out crying bcuase I remember we used to buy produce for Coco.Sorry for going on and on but just thought I would share,
thanks for reading:(:(:(:(:(:(

The Loss of a Loved one whether Feathered,Furred,or Finned, is hard on us all in grief we share our Humanity; I can only say sorry for your loss but glad of your memory of your baby's last gift her name.

I am so sorry, I can't imagine losing mine. Bless her little heart and sweet to know she said her name. You will never forget her I am sure.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry for your loss , these little feathered kids fill our lives with such joy and leave such a whole in our hearts when they are gone : (

I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope with time the pain in your heart will lessen, and be filled with happy memories.

I am very sorry for your loss :( You did all you could for her!

So sorry for you loss, we all share your sadness
You were both blessed having each other in your lives
You have such wonderful memories, never to be taken away

So sorry for your heartbreaking loss. What you said-- It is extremely difficult living without birds if you have had them and loved them-- is very true. I learned that after my Yellow-crowned Amazon George passed away in 2010. No other bird could ever replace one that you lost, but welcoming another parrot into your life can make a tremendous difference. All the best to you.

Nobody but another bird lover can know what it's like to lose one of these angels. We all share your grief. I have lost several beloved feathered friends. Others never take their place, but, do help to fill the hole left in your heart.

So sorry for your loss :(

She died in my arms that day.The sad thing was is that the day before she died she learned to say her name.

That makes me so sad :( I hope you feel better soon.

I'm so sorry for your loss. *hug*

I just lost Puck a little less than 2 months ago. I still miss him a lot, although it's been getting easier. My life feels much emptier without him though.

yes I know how you feel.I hope you do get another bird, its never the same but it will help and you will fall in love all over again.Just think of all the good times and it will get better.Life feels so much emptier and the littlest things make you sad but think of all the good things ahead of you and think of the time you had with Puck,he was happy and you were happy.I have a big picture on my wall of Coco and me and I look at it everyday.:)Just a tip ,if you get a second bird do not get the same species because you do not want to be comparing them to Puck.I feel your loss and I'm so sorry I give you a *hug* back :):(:green2:
btw I love the name ...so creative
