I have a pair of parrots cocktail, the male woos the female, and my question is how long mating occurs around since the beginning of the courtship process?

Welcome to the forum. :)

I took the liberty and 'fixed' your title. (Cocktail = something you drink) :54:

Have an answer?

they need at least one month toghter so they get to know each others well you will know when they r on love when they sart scratching each others head and i hope they breed alot

Mating can start taking place the second you put them in together, or 5 years later.... it just depends on the birds.... once they're mating it's usually about a week-10days before she lays, although it could be as early as 3 days, it takes about 3 days for an egg to develop in the ovaries and be laid. It is very important that the bird be on an amazing diet during this time to help prevent egg binding... calcium protein vitamin b and vitamin a are the most important nutrients needed to help that.....
once eggs are laid you can candle them in 3-5 days to see if they are fertile but it could take up to a week to show development. Eggs hatch 18-23 days after incubation starts.....

So very much can go wrong and you can lose babies and lose the parents. Are you sure you want to breed? It can be quite heartbreaking, scary, hard, and exhausting....

if you decide you want to go through with this, please get a mentor who can teach you to handfeed correctly and can walk you through breeding .... It isn't as easy as sticking two birds in a cage and waiting for babies.... cockatiels are easy to get babies, but hard to keep the babies alive....

the best resource I've found and one of my breeding mentors is susanne russo at justcockatiels.net ...... or if you google international cockatiel resource,... she runs two different sites.... Good Luck.
