Any tiel owners experience your bird preferring the bottom of the cage sometimes? She's not sick, she's always been like this since we got her at an unknown age or history sometime last year. She sleeps on her fav perch at night. It's just when we have the cage open she often just prefers to stay in the cage, pacing the cage floor looking around. I've attached a photo of her just hanging out there. I was thinking maybe because they technically are foraging parrots? I also attached a fun picture of us, she loves just hanging out on my shoulder if I put her there. Likes to preen my fuzzy face and pull out my hair lol.

Do you spend individual time with your tiels if you have multiple?

I don't know why it turned my photos sideways...

Cockatiels are grass feeders and spend a lot of their time foraging on the ground so it would be a reason why they prefer the base of the cage more than other types of parrots might. I think Apollo is going to be that way. He's learning how to climb through his cage and can get to some areas on his own with little to no problem but still prefers the bottom.

As Owlet says.
In the wild they are ground feeders.
My biggest problem with that is when I let them out to fly.
They end up on the floor in danger of being stepped on.
They are getting better about that. As soon as they head for the floor I put them back in the cage.

She's cute, I love the one of her looking up!

They love to forage. Baby used to spend a lot of time at the bottom of his cage that I layered it with two paper towels so that he can be comfy and even enough to take a nap. I got him a new cage a few months ago but he still goes at the bottom mostly foraging around and playing. Since your tiel is a female I would also be on the look out for potential nesting behaviors.

She actually was sitting on my shoulder tonight and started the low "chirp... chirp chirp" with her head low. I think she's horny. She doesn't rub or anything maybe she was just being weird. Jazz my boy tiel wont have anything to do with her its so sad :(

That does sound like an indication that she is in the mood to mate.
Sunny makes this noise when she is underneath a toy that touches her back.
