Cockatiel
Three weeks ago I got a 12 week old cockatiel. At the bird farm he or she was 98 gms. I have a bird scale and I did weigh Rio when we got home to make sure my scale matched the bird farms scale to which it did. I’ve been weighing every day and he or she keeps losing weight. This morning Rio was 77 g. I am getting really concerned. Rio whistles he eats and seems to be fine. Rios’s poop looks fine. Was he overweight at 98 g at 12 weeks old? He was just weaned when I got him. Do they tend to lose weight from formula to regular food? The place where I got him, said that he was eaten fruits and vegetables and all of that, but he doesn’t touch any of that. He will eat scrambled eggs and then of course he eats his seed and millet. He eats cockatiel seed and Zupreen pellets. Any advice would be greatly appreciated thank you.

Do you have an avian vet? I would bring him in for a check up. 77 grams is on the low end of normal for an adult, however they do lose weight during weaning. Babies eat a lot and have much larger crops than adults. They slim down when fledging so they can become skilled flyers. As long as he's acting healthy and active and behaving normally he's probably fine but I would bring him to an avian vet to be sure.
