I am using a petsmart clicker, same I use for my dog, and it's a very loud pop. Do you think this is fine to use with the bird or will it annoy him and do more harm than good? I've been using it, just not sure if I should continue.

So smart!! I'll try that! Thank you :)

I wouldn't be too worried only if it scares them. Remember loud = fun

although the sock idea sounds pretty clever, you mac may suddenly get an interest in all socks! :D

I do "clicker training" sans the clicker. I am no coordinated enough to hold a clicker, target stick, treat, etc. all at the same time and not fumble around. I make a clicking sound or simply say "YEAH" as the click. I always have my "clicker" handy and even if I am on the other side of the room, when Tsali says something I want to reinforce, I can "click" and dash to one of the treat containers and head his way. He KNOWS when he hears me making the clicking sound that he is going to get a treat so now he will say or do something clever and say "YEAH" using my voice -- and yes he gets a treat.

I use a target/clicker stick I bought online. It's a two-in-one thing. I've had great success :).

Bought it from Good Bird Inc, but you can find others online.
They are called Telescope Target stick with clicker!!
