Citron Crested x Galah Hybrid

Just to add to that, Greys are anywhere between 2700 and 4000, down from the 5-7000 a few years ago. A babe macaw would be 10000-12000. We don't import or export except for under strict licencing criteria mainly held by the zoos. The gene pool is tiny and the more unusual parrots are really quite hard to get ahold of. Sucks for the likes of kiwibird and I in a selfish sense, but there's not a huge need or demand for rescue centres, and rehomes have often been either well cared for and are genuine. Obviously, as with the macaws above, this is not always the case however it is nothing like I read about in the states.

Hello :) Did you get this fella in the end? I know 2 of these Hybrids, sadly both are quite aggressive, one hates hands, the other one will attack anyone given an opportunity and has a real thirst for blood. Cockatoo’s unlike Macaws don’t do so well when their species is mixed. I know of a breeder that mixed a cockatiel with galah, all the babies were extremely disfigured, it was awful and most were put down. It saddens me that breeders will keep trying to mix these beautiful birds just so they can make an extra buck. Be very aware than once a Cockatoo matures, their personality can complete change. Cockatoo hormones are not to be taken lightly, even the most docile one can turn into the incredible hulk from time to time. Sadly, the parrot rescues in the UK are full of cockatoo’s, most people can’t cope with them once they reach maturity. To be honest I really don’t think Cockatoo’s should be in the pet trade full stop, due to their longevity and velcro nature.

Very good points, hybridization is not to be taken lightly. Cockatiel X Galah is lunacy!

I have come to believe cockatoos are best kept in multiples for best socialization. Unless their human(s) can devote many hours per day, their chances of a happy life are diminished.
