Cherry from last two days flapping his wings vry hard and yestrday he flew from my hand on to the sofa.
its a good sign for him that he's learning so quickly.
but today what he did gave me jitters.
he was pearching on top of his basket which he does often.
and he flew from that towards the wall in front of him and his head hit the wall.
fortunately there was no harm done.
Is it time now to bring him a cage. coz i am afraid he may injure himself now.
and there's the ceiling fan too.
plz advice.

Yeah, Cherry definetly needs a cage now for his own safety. I turn off our ceiling fans when my birds are out of their cages. Quinn is very laid back and she doesn't come out of her cage yet on her own. She will step up to me when I ask her so for now I just take her out and let her sit on me for awhile a couple of times of day.

Definitely turn off the ceiling fan and look around for other dangers to him--stove, pots full of water, electrical cords he may chew, toxic plants etc.

Have fun shopping for a cage. Check with other owners of birds like Cherry--He's an Alexandrine? to be sure you get a cage large enough for him. It's important that they have room to spread their wings, accomodate their long tails and plenty of room to play.

Hey Himansh, Tango did the same thing for his first flight. He'd been flapping his wings for a couple days then one morning just took off and flew into a wall. At this stage when they first start flying I don't think they can go fast enough to really hurt themselves badly. Cherry will learn to turn and avoid hitting things soon enough. Alex parrots are great flyers, they can hover like a helicopter and land in very specific spots (usually your shoulder when they think you have something for them). But of course watch the ceiling fan.

Definitely time for a good cage. Just make sure theres a good perching spot and some toys to chew on. Remember toys don't have to be made just for parrots, any good wooden toy (especially unpainted) will keep a parrot happy for hours. They just need something to chew on. Rope is good too. Just anything to keep him busy.

Hope that helps, lemme know if you have any more questions.
