Goofy (YNA), Oscar (Goffin 'too). Foster bird Betty (RLA). RIP Cookie, 1991-2016 ('tiel), Leo (Sengal), Charlotte (scarlet macaw). Grand-birds: Liam (budgie), Donovan (lovebird), RIP Angelo (budgie)
These last 10 days have been full of change and upheaval. Cookie passed away, MrC is out of town, and now Charlotte is out of the house (at the vet's). The remaining birds are unsurprisingly freaked out and not behaving normally. Goofy is not my bird, and lets me know it, though I'm comfortable caring for him when MrC, who's his human, is out of town. He's been okay for the most part, until Monday, when Charlotte disappeared. He's been attacking the stick I use to transfer him (he won't step up on my arm, and that's okay for now) and refuses to come out of his cage. Well this won't do at all. He didn't come out Monday or Tuesday, so today I decided that he was coming out wether he wanted to or not. So I pulled out the big guns. A cheese bribe. Goofy rarely gets cheese, but he'd dance the Macarena in roller skates on the back of an elephant for just a little bit, so I pull it out only when I really need to him to do something and his attitude is poor. It's amazing how fast he goes from "I hate the world and everything in it and I'm not going to behave for you" to "Just tell me what to do! I'll do anything! Just give me the cheese!" whenever he sees it.

So now he's out and enjoying himself on his perch, chewing on a spoon, one of his favorite things in the world to chew on*.

*His first human, who had from the time he was a just-weaned baby to the time he gave him to MrC, was a mechanic, and took him to his shop, where he'd give him small tools to play with while he worked. As a result, he likes chewing on small metal things.

When everything else fails!!! It is what it is! This may also be the turning point with the remaining flock until MrC gets home.

My dear wife use to say the same; Why is it everything fails when you're traveling!!!

Oh my GODDD, Beatrice... what did I miss? Charlotte's gone??????
I'll backtrack so as not to make you repeat it...
I'm dumbstruck. I'm so sorry.

I see you found the other thread. She's spending the week at the vet's, so the other birds are kind of freaked out.

He should be home in a few hours, which will be a relief. He actually got back into L.A. last night, but had to take his mother home, and after a long day of traveling he just wasn't up to driving home. Also, there were some things around his mother's house that really needed to be done, so he wanted to stay and do those things. He was aiming to leave there by noon, but considering he never leaves anywhere on time, he'll probably leave closer to two. It's 12:25 and he hasn't left yet, as far as i know.

Amy is a cheesehead herself..so was Smokey

When Amy see's that she has scrambled eggs in her nummy bowl, she KNOWS there will be cheese mixed in and heads right for it lol.
I just tear off about 1/4 of the slice, tear it into bits, then mix it in with the egg and veggies and cook in a fry pan. I can almost hear her say YUUMMMMM :p

MrC is home! I'm not sure who's happier: him, me or Goofy.

I'm so sorry to hear about Charlotte, I hope all move forward quickly though. I know it hurts. What is it about cheese? Buddy's previous owner loved and Mac and cheese so guess who starts pitching a boogy woogy when he smells it. Yes I cave and give him a teaspoon and his head disappears into his bowl while a million happy sounds are going off at once, lol.
