Hello everyone!

Due to the fact that I have a dog the same name as a bird I am currently looking into purchasing, I was wondering if it would be wise to change the name of an older bird--aprox. 3 years--or if that is a no-no?

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I wouldn't worry about it too much. What kind of bird are you getting?

My fiance and I really hope to go look at a female eclectus tomorrow and put down a deposit if she's right for us. Fingers crossed her humans call us back tonight!

If your just getting her this could be apositive thing if used in the right way.

I know its diffrent, but name changes are used in dog training when the dog its problematic (as they will constantly get there names shouted at them and learn that its not a good thing )they cahnge it to try and encourage a positive behaviour...

but this could depend on how well this bird truely uinderstands its name also...

but in general i dont see why not!

Depends how well she knows her name. Cause if your calling your dog, she would be thinking your calling her.

One thing I have noticed with my Eclectus pair, they're not fans of dogs, they're fine with cats and other birds, just not dogs....Probably because I have big dogs and they're kinda nuts, they don't mind the Chihuahua though....Mine would freak out and flutter in their cage....So I keep them upstairs away from the dogs... So if you do decide to keep them separated, IF you kept repeating her name every time you see her, it would be easy for you to change names.

Is that the Eclectus ad I sent you?

Yes it is :D

But they haven't got back to me yet--which is fine since we aren't thinking of purchasing a bird for another couple of weeks. But we still want to put a deposit down & get everything all set up for the little lady.

She's very close to me! I hope you get her, she's beautiful!!! Just remember about their diet needs like I told you in the email before. If you do get her and want some good sites to go by on how to care for them let me know, we have them book marked on the home computer. Good luck! :)

Those sites would be great! I want to be as knowledgable as I can before our little baby comes home! I'm going by Lowe's this week and getting supplies to build her a play stand so she can sit comfortably by the table while we eat. I also picked up her first toy-- a little shredable pinata from the pet store; it's adorable!

Hopefully this little lady can come through! Still holding out on the call!
