Hello, I've been reading here for a long time and finally got around to registering.

I was wondering if it's safe to use chain from dog collars to make toys. I have a few lying around the house that I don't use. I could swear I read somewhere that it's safe but can't find anything about it after searching.

Thanks!

Chains have earned themselves a rather bad rep lately, as we've had a number of accidents caused by chains.

As for using a dog chain, I would ONLY consider it if it's made of SS.

Definitely not safe, one of my cockatiels got his beak caught in a link from a chain and broke it in 3 places.

what I do now is put blocks over the chains, or vet wrap them.
no more visible chains in any of my cages any longer.

Yup! What the ladies said : must be SS and even then, it must be covered. I don't have any chains in my cage either.

Never knew they could be that dangerous, guess i'm ordering some vet wrap then.
Is vet wrap safe then to use for the chains?
Is their a brand i need to take heed of?
since i'm in the netherlands and do not know if the vet wrap is any different.
I did found some of the brand Petflex ,is that any good?

The only way I have chains in my bird cage is if they have toys hung on them blocking the chains. I had an issue with my macaw not long ago getting himself caught in the chain and he freaked out.
