I was driving around and noticed some cattails at the side of the road. My wife would hate me for the mess but I bet the green chicken would love to shred them. Any thoughts?

I am very cautious about pulling anything from the wild that cannot be baked because captive birds lack the immunity of wild ones and such plants can harbor numerous diseases from birds, but also fungi, mold, parasites, insects etc...Plus, you don't know what kind of run-off they have been exposed to, and pesticides/salt runoff can be ingested by a bird if you give them plants that have been exposed to nasty soil (nothing from the side of the road is considered safe, technically).

I agree with noodles123, I'd pass on that idea.

Save the home pease and leave the cattails in the pond.
Whether okay or not, the mess would have you in the 'doghouse' for weeks when the tons of seed pots floated to every corner of the house.
