I want to make some toys for a friend's ringneck. Since I'm cutting down some cassava trees/large shrubs I was hoping to use their wood plus natural jute rope to make a ladder for her, for a start.
Cassava wood is quite soft, so I don't see it lasting long, but it should be a lot of fun to demolish. The trees are just cassavas that were left for years without harvesting. The tubers that grew these trees are a 'sweet' cassava, that is they low toxicity, requiring little effort to make safe for human consumption.
I know that wilted cassava leaves are safe to include in chicken feed, and I regularly use the shredded leaves and branches as a mulch in the yard my hens occupy, however, I can't find any information on using the wood for parrot toys. Maybe it is fine but no one thinks it worth mentioning because it is so soft and any self respecting parrot will make short work of it?
