Carrier training

I just bought an Abba soft sided bird carrier for Oliver, my goal is to take him with me on outings, and car rides. He has never been trained for an actual carrier, due to the fact I have a small parakeet cage I use for travel and transport, but it seems it's more appropriate for a bird carrier for my needs, such as if I want to go to the park.

How would I train Oliver to go into this and zip up without being scared to death?

Thank you everyone.

I woud say...
First, just leave it near his cage for a week or two.
Then move it closer for a week or two.
Then have it near when he is out for a week or two.
Then see if he will get on the top for a week or two.
Then see if he will go get a treat near the door for a week or two... then closer, finally inside, with door open... then with door shut for a few seconds... then longer...
You get the idea! :)
If there's a problem, back up, back off... easy does it.

Good luck!
