We were planning on having our carpets cleaned soon but I am stopping it if it contains anything harmful towards birds. Here is a list of what the different cleaning contain. Home

I was planning on getting NO PROTECTANTS just the basic solution. I would prefer steam only and have emailed the company to ask if I can get an only steam cleaning. Does anyone know if any of the products listed above are harmful?

I've decided to get a steam carpet cleaner and do it myself at home that way I know it will be done the way I want it.

With pets, having your own carpet cleaner is an awesome investment. I had one years ago that was only so so, then when i got a new puppy, i invested in a good quality carpet cleaner.
I also have found using vinegar and water works well on the carpet (yes your house temporarily smells like salad), esp for certain stains. My dog knocked over a diet coke on a white (brand new) area rug. I used wet vac immediately and i still saw a tiny discoloration. I poured vinegar on the spot and then used steam cleaner and it came up like new. And vinegar isn't harsh and toxic. :)
Good luck.

Yes, but you may find you want a little more uumph in some spots and you could mix a home-made cleaning solution with something like vinegar and water or baking soda and water, etc., to avoid the harsh chemicals.

I have a Steam Cleaner and use vinegar or some baking soda in very spoiled spots. The hot water alone gets the carpet clean enough for me. :) (Our carpet is burgundy in color, so it hides "dirt" pretty well...but white dog hair is an entirely different story. :30: )

After I place Mercedes and Julianna I want to be able to get the carpets cleaned. This is something I am very nervous of doing because of my parrots. What is the best solution to use if you are to rent the carpet cleaner. I don't have a home one and they are too expensive to buy.

I have a home steam cleaner, and I do mine once a month with no ill effects.

I also have a thing called a spot bot which is worth it's weight in gold!

I just wanted to add a warning about heated vinegar. I don't have first hand experience with vinegar, however I've heard then read several things about how vinegar fumes can become toxic to birds when heated.
** maybe it's like Teflon where it actually needs to be above a certain degrees to produce toxic fumes, but the advice is erring on the side of caution :)
