Can't tell if it's love or hate...

Foggy, a green cheek conure
This is a less urgent topic than it could be, with a subject like that! But I do wonder...

Foggy has a ladder in his cage that runs to the bottom of the cage and fits in between his two perches... you can see it in this video, albeit knocked over.

The knocked-over thing is the question--he knocks it down practically every day! He does climb on it, both before and after he knocks it down, and seems to use it to get easily between the two branches. But I can't tell if he knocks it down because he doesn't like it, or because he enjoys knocking it over!

He has certain toys that he "loves to hate"; he beats the crap out of them and gnaws on them, but it seems that he enjoys having them around to beat up. On the other hand, I got him a bird kabob once and he legitimately loathed it--ran away from it every time I brought it out.

I'm wondering at this point if I should take the ladder out altogether. He really does pull it over every single day, and even if he is enjoying it, I'm not sure if he's in danger from it crashing over. I don't want to take away a fun toy, but if it's actually bothering him I wouldn't know how to tell the difference!

Thoughts?

Sounds like play to me.

If he hated it, he likely would freak out at it and certainly wouldn't use it. It sounds like play to me as well.

He could also just be trying to get your attention. If I'm no the phone and in conversation with someone, Skittles will often grab things like pens, pencils, pill bottles, laundry clips and then toss them on the floor and make a single screech. I know he's trying to get my attention, he's playing.

I agree with everyone, sounds like rough and tumble play. How they love to sharpen their beaks :)
