Parrots
"Birdie". Sun Conure
I am considering adding a pair of canaries or finches to our home. I have a single, very tame Sun Conure. Does anybody out there have bothe finches/canaries and a parrot(s)? I figure Birdie won’t get jealous of birds that are not tame. Does anybody out there have experience with this? I am itching to get another bird(s), but don’t want To upset Birdie.

I have finches & a canary & they are in my small bird room which also houses my conures. My conures completely ignore them. I have seen no jealousy at all with them. I love having the little guys as well as bigger birds, they also have so much personality even if they are not tame.

This is for terry one of my local pet stores has finches all the time, can you do anything with them? I guess I mean are they tame-able or are they like goldfish you just feed them and they stay in their cage and look pretty?

I know that sounds kind of harsh maybe but parrots are so much more personable.....

I know a couple of finch breeders from our bird club who have handfed baby finches after they were kicked out of the nest. They were super tame while feeding, but reverted back to wild pretty quickly after they were weaned and joined the other finches in the aviary. I really think finches are much happier being with their own kind.

They have an appeal all their own though. We have 14 Zebras in one of our flights and there is always something going on. I could watch them for hours.

I have 2 cages with zebra and society finches, and my lovebird (the most bonded to me) shows no jealousy towards them, since i'm not physically interacting with or touching them. She seems amused by them though, and loves hopping around on top of their cages to watch them. It's totally fine as long as you don't let your parrots in the finch/canary cage! 😂
