When I was a little girl, my grandma's friend bred canaries, and when we visited her the whole aviary would erupt in louder song! I rarely see them around now, does anyone here have one? Are they uncommon as pets?

We have a timbrado canary named Steve. Unfortunately he's not currently singing because he's going through a molt.

I know of 2 people off the top of my head that had (probably still have) one, but they haven't been on the forum in a very long time. Hopefully more owners will chime in :).

Our local petsmart carries them. When we get back to the mainland I would love to get some :)

That's where I always see them. Petsmart and Petco. So they must still be popular pets. Now that I'm thinking about it, I've seen them at a couple bird stores too.

I believe that a couple local breeders brought in a large amount of breeding stock a number of years ago, so they are readily available here.

They're readily available along the east coast of Canada too.

We have a Fife canary named Ries who recently lost his mate, Zin:( There are alot here in Edmonton, several members of our bird club breed them.
