can you mix african greys, need help

hello i have an african grey conga (harry) and i have a friend that wants rid of 1, im willing to take it in but is it a gd idea on my parrot as they would be in the same room and i do not want my parrot to get distressed and think im rejecting him, so what should i do any single little bit of advice would be helpful many thanks

Parrots are flock animals. They enjoy the company of others. Your bird will probably enjoy talking back and forth with a new friend.
It is important to quarantine your new bird. If it has always been a single parrot you should be fine.
Place the cages across the room from one another. Always take care of Harry first. Give him special attention. After about a week if all is well, you can move the cages closer and closer with time. Build up to having them next to each other. Then you can start by allowing Harry on his cage and then the other bird. Some parrots really interact well together. My greys love talking with each other but prefer to not be in close proximity to one another. Respect you birds wishes and all should be well.

First off, if you get this other bird, you MUST quarantine him or her for 30 days and not allow your bird to associate with the new bird until the quarantine is over.

Secondly, welcome to the forums, we have a wealth of imformation here.

Thirdly, You must realize that if your bird has been the king of the roost for a while, he will more than likely get jealous of a new addition. There will be changes which maybe good, or maybe bad, only time will tell. If you want to make sure nothing changes between you and your current bird, don't get a second bird.

I agree with greycloud. Most likely your Cag will enjoy talking back and forth with the new one. But it is hard to say if they will be able to be on the same stand or cage together. Sometimes they get along, sometimes they don't. You would just have to take it slow and after the quarantine time introduce them very slowly. (the way that greycloud suggested would be perfect)

After having a grey for 2 years I got a GCC. It ended up bad bad. Conure was so jealous of my grey that he kept on being a bully to her. Eventually he had two very serious bite injuries to his head and almost died. Need I say more?

Just play with the separately and have two different play stands. Thats a simple solution right there! I have 18 birds right now even though only 11 of them can be held, rest are keets, canaries, and two mean tiels that don't like to be touched but at least I taught them to step up so if they escape their cage at least I can pick them up without issue. Out of the 11birds only 2 can play nice, the ekkies. Rest comes out separately and different play stands.

I got a breeding pair of GCC's.. I put them in the same room as Max to sleep, and took them out to the lounge during day time hours...

Max started to not wanting to step up within the cage, and would do some pretend bites...

Now I leave the GCC's in the family room, and only take Max into the office to sleep... He's much calmer now...
