Can you keep a hand raised male & female without them bonding?

I currently have a male red sided who recently lost his neighbour, a male sun conure. He is very lost without his friend. I am contemplating getting him some company & have considered a female red sided. They would be kept in separate cages but will have interaction. Is it possible for them to be friends & not lovers - lol! Tango is almost 3 years old.

Cheers :D

Hello and thank you for posting. the best thing about male Eclectus, they really seem to thrive with other birds and like you stated, keep them in seperate cages or else they will bond with eachother and want very little to do with you.
I have a Green Wing Macaw ( Neleno) 3 years old and a SI male Eclectus (Guapo) 5 years old. They are truely the best of friends, both my boys are very sweet. My Guapo keeps my Green Wing in line and corrects him if he is doing something Guapo does not like. It's so funny watching them and seeing this little Parrot go after my huge Green Wing when keeping him in check. I watch my boys very close to make sure they are playing nice together or when Guapo climbs all over Neleno. I would say go for it.
When your get your new female home, bond with her first, then introduce them to eachother slowly to see how they react to eachother. Male Eclectus seem to get along with all birds where sometimes the females struggle a little. best of luck Joe

I think the advice from JJones is excellent. And of course you can keep a female eclectus in a separate cage if that's really what you want. Yes they can be friends & yes it could turn out they want to pair up. They may not even like each other. But thats the chance you have to take if your considering a pair.

I keep a pair together, they came to me as a pair, but they tolerate each other, but don't really love each other. I don't have a problem taking out either one of them. But of course it depends from pair to pair. My friend's breeding pair still comes out and still sweet as ever. At the beginning JoJo was interacting with Dixie my LSC too, but when I was paying her for attention one day, JoJo came over and peck at her. It kinda surprised me that he was jealous....So I bring them out separately now....
