- My first bird was a parakeet named Buddy (passed away November 8, 2012). My newest friend is a parakeet named Chipper.
I've read about birds like parrots and cockatoos getting really clingy...but can parakeets get clingy too?
Recently, I've noticed that my parakeet, Chipper, will start squawking his little head off when I leave the room. Or sometimes he'll start chirping really loud and squawking and it's just because he wants me to take him out of his cage and hold him. I hold him and pet him all the time, and it seems like now he always wants attention! I don't mind it, I'm just wondering if it's normal.
He has plenty of toys in his cage, and he does play with them. He's eating and drinking fine, and he looks great. His feathers are beautiful, and in fact it looks like some of his flight feathers are growing back.
I love Chipper, and I'm glad he's so friendly. But I'm just wondering if it's normal for parakeets to get a little clingy. Whenever I leave the room, he starts squawking, and my parents tell me that when I go somewhere, he will keep squawking for a while. I asked them to go in the room and talk to him once in a while when I'm not home, so he doesn't get too lonely.
