Chika, my green cheek conure. She is my first bird.
We have a wild bird feeder at our house, and they always drop seeds and they sprout. It gave me the idea that I could sprout some for my Chika! But I don't know if she can have it... It's the songbird mix, I believe. What do you think?

I have GCC'S, Budgies & Tiels as well as the larger parrots, I sprout all sorts of seeds for them. I also grow the seeds in pots for my parrots, when the grasses start to seed the pot goes in the bottom of the cage. the birds have a great time pulling it to bits. Eating what they want & the best part, the seeds are a lot healthier when fresh & milky.

If you go to a healthfood/natural food store, you can buy seeds to spout that are very inexpensive. A year's supply would be about 3 bucks and you can eat them too.

I would be nervous about the quality of the outdoor bird mix. I wouldn't be willing to feed it. However, even a bag of cheap parakeet seed will sprout if it isn't rotten. It won't contain much variety, but I wouldn't be AS afraid of it.

For me, it's the health food store. And I use sprouts on my sandwiches too.

Awesome, I'll go to a health food store. Thanks!

my budgie somehow managed to sprout millet seed in his cage we removed it and put it into a pot so i would assume most seeds from a parrot seed mix would sprout too

I wouldn't give any kind of wild bird seed or planting seeds to birds. However, sprouts are excellent for birds! I just ordered a bird sprouting mix from Sprout People, I'm excited to get it and try it out for my green cheek! Lil Bird Sprouts
