Marley the amazon
Hello everyone
In the evening when marley the owa has his playtime on the floor witch is so fun to watch but the last few days marley has been puffing himself up and doing well a bunny hop and then trys to bite my other half .. Anyone know what this is about
iv been loving all the older post on here and I am learning a lot so thanks peeps.

Sounds like he's a bit jealous ;) Does your OH interact with him at all? I'm having to push my husband to interact with Kazi more. Right now Kazi thinks I'm his girlfriend and he has to defend me from everyone. Just now he chased a dangerous cat away from my chair. Thank goodness, otherwise I might have gotten some cat hair on me or something.

As i recall Marley is rather young (immature), my wife calls this behavior "spooking" most all of our baby amazons and immatures do this with each other and their toys,it's a sort of bluffing thing to make themselves appear more fearsome than they really are. It's so they won't get picked on by their siblings and or birds.Your handraised pet doesn't know he's a bird and sees other people as flock members and treats them as such. There's a pecking order in a flock of amazons and your Marley is trying to make sure where his place is and knows he doesn't want to be at the bottom, LOL, Tell your husband not to be intimidated and be a big bird or Marley will will feel like he can dominate him.

Ah, yes, my Nanday conure did this quite a few times the first couple of days the cat was in the house. She made herself as big and frightening looking as she could, and honestly she kind of looked like an eagle.

Cheers guys :)
My oh dose interact with marley but marley isn't as trusting with him ....and yep the other half don't let marley get away with it .. I still can't belive how well and quick marley has settle in ...
I don't think marley had the best start to life as he dosent know how to have a shower ( with a water spray bottle ) he seems scared of the water mist landing on him ... I think he was only feed on nuts apples and oranges .... I have now got him eating a lot more dif fruit +veg . Marley is only just learning what toys are... So anyone got any ideas on fun good treats or toys thanks again peeps

Pete was fed a poor diet as well and also didn't know about toys. He didn't pay much attention to the toys for about 2 weeks and then began figuring out what to do with them. He's still learning and developing his athletic skills. So Marley will probably eventually begin playing as well. He can and does chew much faster than my conure. Definitely provide him with big wood toys to chew. Pete is also pretty fascinated by that hanging ladder type thing you can see in my avatar. I either found it at Petsmart or Pet Supplies Plus. Not sure which because I went to both that day finding him new toys and perches. I think he would also like a large rope swing so that is the next thing I'm going to try. He really likes swinging from his toys but has some issues with getting back off. A swing would make that easier for him.

As far as foods, if you eat with him he will become interested in what you are eating. Begin sharing your healthy foods with him and then he will probably start eating his veggies and fruits and things. Pete now dives to his food bowl when he sees me coming with them. It helped to that he saw my other bird getting so excited for it.

Cheers guys :)

Wow. Sounds like Kazi and Marley each have similar stories and issues! My DH interacts with Kazi inasmuch as speaking to him when he comes in and leaves the room and offering treats when I suggest it :p I think he mostly feels uptight about acting so ridiculous and silly to win Kazi over. I act the fool around Kazi and he just eats it up.

Kazi also hates showers and baths. I've tried all sorts of ways to get him to do it, but he barely tolerates it and only because he knows he can't get to anywhere else. If he didn't stink so bad I wouldn't force him, but he's healthy, just dirty, so he needs to be bathed. So about once a week I make him come into the shower with me.

How weird is that is was only this morning that I told my oh that I'm going to start taking marley in the shower with me to see if I can get him liking it lol :D. And yes I think it might be that my oh don't like acting silly ect . But then again marley trusted me from day 1 me and marley are getting a stronger bond every day :) kazi and marley do sound like they have both been through/act similer :)
Can anyone describe the diffrences between the bfa and the owa please as I'm getting abit confuse with the two types ....

:D

Parrots love silliness and it keeps you young! I admit if my neighbors could see me they might think I've gone over the deep end, but I did it in front of bfs and didn't care what they thought. It's who I am.

If I didn't take Pete in the shower he would be filthy. He gets this oil on him and also makes dust poofs that I can see fly up off of him. He does seem to enjoy it though and has an expectation that I groom him. He is doing quite a bit of preening right now though; more than he usually does, but he also had a shower today.

Difference between BFA and OWA,BFA is better talker and (what's the word) opinionated,OWA more laid back ,playful and adaptable. This of course is just my opinion, each is an individual with a unique personality.

Cheers henpecked
I still not 100percent shore wether marley is a bfa or a owa lol. I was thinking a ow but I'm not so shore now. is there a way to id wether he is one or the other . It dosent matter either way as marley has his home for life here :D .. He is already trying to say knew words and sounds .

BFA normally lack any orange on their cheek or head,BFA normally have yellow at the bend of the wing.OWA if you extend their wing should have 4or5 primary feathers with deep maroon colors (female 4,male 5,not always true)

Well marley has a yellow strip running down the front bend of the wing and has yellow and blue on his head he has the dark maroon colour on his wings to and his tall is yellow orange/redish and light and dark green lol ... So I'm really not shore ... What do u all think . And thanks again henpecked :)

Post pics taken in good light, large enough for us to see,Sound more BFA than OWA but could be a hybrid.OWAs all have the orange cheeks, some more so than others.
