Hello again! I joined last year when I was thinking about getting a green cheek. That never materialized but I am currently an owner of a blue morphed red rumped parakeet. He was parent raised and I'm not sure exactly of his history beyond that. He is a beautiful bird but not the friendly sort yet. I have him caged currently with two diamond doves but he is starting to become overly friendly with them. This week, I'll be putting them in a new cage, whenever it arrives.

I'm seriously contemplating getting another red rump because the poor guy seems so lonely. He always calls out with that special call birds have when trying to find others of their species. I'm just not sure if getting another red rump will help or hinder my relationship with him. I also still have to figure out how to find toys for him. I'm just not sure what he would like seeing as I know very little about parakeets in general. I think I would have done better with a parrot as far as the fun toys go. All I can tell about him right now is that he likes to fly and he's super smart on not being caught. He Amy or may not also think he's a bat.

He is a parrot, and he just needs smaller toys! Maybe destructible kind of toys? Easy to chew up?

If you get another red rump right now, it may be harder to take your current one. Have you tried feeding him by hand?

Grass parakeets generally are not considered good "pets" because they don't form as close of bonds as other parrot species do - so you may also want to take that into consideration. He may be a great shoulder companion, but I wouldn't necessarily think he'd enjoy cuddling and scritches.
