Green-cheek Conure "Mishka" - Sun conure "Calypso"
I met my first Caique this weekend: a little 4 month old WB that could NOT stop moving!! "Clown" was an understatement: it was like an ADHD 2-year old on a constant sugar high!! SO stinking cute though - everything and everyone was a toy to be chewed, shredded, or juggled around while on his back! :p

How on earth do you Caique parronts entertain these cuties? Hats off to you all - I couldn't keep up with the little dollface!!! :D

I have to say every single caique I've ever met acted this very same way. When I took my mother to meet Gandalf at the pet store while he was being weaned, we also played with a black headed caique. He got a hold on my mother's sleeve, and proceeded to climb up on top of her head, and rolled around in her hair for about 5 minutes before we managed to extricate her from his grasp. She was laughing, but scared too. I had to promise her that Gandalf would never do that. :D

Caiques are hilarious little birds aren't they. I once had the pleasure to meet one, and I see what you mean by hyper. They love to bounce up and down, dance, and destroy every toy in sight-- even if it isn't even a real 'toy'. :D

Boy, they're just little balls of fluffy energy aren't they? I'd been considering one possibly in the future, but all that GO-PLAY-WHEE!-ness, while incredible in small doses, would utterly exhaust me. But yeah, they sure are adorable. :D

NFE, I laughed at the image of a little Caique rolling in hair - after seeing this one, it wouldn't have surprised me! He sure seemed enamored of trying to go down my (and any other female who would hold him) shirt like a little mole. :p

Oyster is nuts! He will rub and bite on my shirts for hours if I let him. He grabs my hair and sort of puts it into his feathers if that makes sense. He loves to chatter and make any noise he can. His whistles sound just like mine, and if I go higher pitch, so does he. He's kind of like a cat...we can wrestle around and I can 'tickle him' and he gently bites and kicks and laughs all at the same time. I couldn't imagine my life without him!

Lol - I know Rosie isnt a Caigue but posted this vid on the talking page and thought I would post it here too......ADHD delux!!!!! I think this syndrome is everywhere! ;)

One of my conures, Gem, does the hair thing. I wear mine up when at work. If Gem manages to get on my shoulder before I have removed the clip, Gem attacks the clip until it is gone or I get tired of the antics and then remove it. Then Gem is in my hair winding the strands around wings and feet and what all. All I ever think is "good thing" this babe is housetrained!

I love my two clowns... best graduation gift my parents could have ever given me!!! I always wanted a bigger parrot... but I knew NOTHING about caiques until I brought mine home. They are the biggest spitfires you could ever meet. Referring to the question "How do you keep them busy?"... well the answer to that is about 20+ toys and a cage the size of a cockatoo's! I am constantly spending on toys and rotating things in and out... and they tear most things to shreds. Mine are also huge fans of Scooter Z's Sleepy Teepys... They're in and out of theirs all day long. The world would be a better place if everyone had a WBC! :)

Lol I guess birds in general can be ADD: my little GCC was pretty bouncy yesterday (wanted on me, then off me then immediately back on, then was all over her cage when I put her on it), and the Sun conure Dude's hopefully buying next week was ADHHHHHD. ;) I gotta admit it's pretty cute but I have to scramble to figure out what to do to keep them entertained. :p

The story of my life!!!!! "So, what do you do with your lovebird?...I spend ages making toys and watch her destroy it in two second!" :09:

From all the people I know with these birds the tricks is to have two! Let them entertain each other while you are being entertained by the two of them!

I dont personally have one but the few people I know with them started with one and all have now added a second caique for their first to play with!

I think they are like lays potato chips "You cant have just one" :D

Caiques LOVE to play.....everything is a toy to them.....That is one of the nice things about owning one...they can keep themselves entertained...you don't need a tv with a caique around...LOL

Yes, they are big clowns but they can be very stubborn and I always advise anyone that wants one to do their homework on this species...there really isn't a lot out there on them.....they are always advertised as the clowns of the bird world but there is so much more to them then that....they can have change on a dime behaviors and can become aggressive....homework, homework, homework before getting any species of bird.....I love my caique to death, he is a handful sometimes but I couldn't imagine my life without him.

All the ones I've been around before are like what you guys say....non stop movement....they're like energizer bunny, it keeps going and going and going.... LoL

Have you guys seen this one??? I laugh every time I see it. :04:
