Caique illness??

Hi guys, I just bought a baby white bellied caique. His name is baby joker. Like all caiques, he's playful, curious and over all full of joy. But recently, I've noticed that his top beak going inside his bottom beak randomly and slightly drools while doing so. His behavior nor eating patterns haven't changed so I'm not sure what to make of it. Can anyone help? Not sure if it's an illness, defect or just a habit.

wow, um I'm not familiar with caiques, and their jaw range of motion, I'd wait till morning, this forum has a lot of people who check it first thing in the morning....after that I'd look through the google nets and find an AVN. It might be a normal thing but I've never heard about it before.

Hello there

If you haven't gone for a wellness check I'd do so and bring it up there

if you already have done then give a call and ask about it, see what the vet says

To me it sounds like a beak problem like scissor beak. I could be wrong, that's just what I think.
He needs to see a vet to have it trimmed, and make sure there is no infection or underlying illness.

Welcome to the forums! Congrats, I love the name, Joker for a caique! I agree with the others, a visit to a certified avian vet is definitely in order, please mention the behavior and drooling, it's always good to provide as much information as possible to the vet. We'd love to see photos of Baby Joker.

Thank you for welcoming, I appreciate it. Not sure if it's scissors beak or not because he does it randomly during the day and also when he sleeps (on and off.) how do I post pics on here?

"Drooling" is very concerning. Parrots have dry mouthes unless they've just eaten something moist or taken a drink. They don't have watery saliva and their thick, mucous-like saliva they produce in the back of the mouth shouldn't be present in the front of the mouth where it would be visible or leaking! Good call getting a vet check done. Would be interested in an update on what this is?

Update

So Joker got checked and he’s ok. He had a slight injury in his lower beak that made him put his upper beak inside the lower beak in order fr him to rest it at times. Other than that, he’s still the same ol joker that likes to clown and tumble all the time like all caiques. Thank you guys for your responses:):orange:
