I am bringing home a blue and gold macaw :blue1: in about a month. (Woohoo!) I am looking for a decent cage for her. We also have a very large java tree that she probably will be spending most of her day on. I found a few online and was wondering what the best one would be.

I have this one at home, but I'm thinking it would be too small...
A&E Cage
Would it be too small for a 5 month old b&g until I pick another cage?

I would love a stainless steel one, but that will have to be a couple of years down the road. Any thoughts on whether a play top is a good idea or not? I'm not sure about her being above us. Anyone have one of the prevue cages? They had mixed reviews online regarding quality...

I just bought the Silverado Cage last week for my Macaw. LOTS of room . Quality of the cage is good. Arrived in two boxes and only one place on the cage seemed chipped. A small spot. They also include a small container of paint for any touch ups.

I saw your pictures and post about that cage. It does look HUGE!!!! I had it in my shopping cart and ready to go, but then I read a bunch of not so great reviews on it and it worried me. It looks awesome for the price. So you guys had no issues with bent pieces or any of the other drama I read?

I am so torn between that one and the other Prevue one. They both look the same except one has a curved top and one flat. I couldn't decide if the flat was more functional vs the prettier curved top. Aaaah! I hate decisions!:confused::smile005::22_yikes:

I will chime in with the "flat vs domed" top, and I have to say, I 100% prefer a dome top. I try to put myself in the place on my bird, and I think a flat top would be pretty claustrophobic. Like having a small apartment with a low, flat ceiling compared to one with a bit of a vaulted ceiling. Which would you prefer? The dome, to me, just seems a more natural and pleasant shape for a bird to have above them IMO:)

I'd go with the silverado myself... NO CONTEST!

40x30 is fine for my Red Front, but it's a bit small for a B&G.

I love it. So does my Macaw. LOTs of room and arrived in good condition. Would buy it again if I had to . Nothing bent.

Dome top is actually more functional with the long macaw tail feathers.

It gives them more interior room.

There was one place I had to use the touch up paint with. Also I ran my hand over the entire inside and found two small places that would scratch so I broke them off. Just small like the size of a hair and very short. SO make sure you do that on the inside. It just came off with my fingers so figured it must have been paint
