Busy Budgies

My 2 Budgies are way more destructive than my conure. They have destroyed a new toy in 3 days, Easy. Budgies are busy little birds for sure.

just out of curiosity are your budgies English budgies as I have only the experience of a few birds to go on and to date I find mine are the opposite to all I have read, in that my English Budgies are more playful and into toys than the American ones which are far more gentle when playing with their toys and are not at all as acrobatic in their play. So I was just curious to know if your budgies were English or American? Everything I have so far read about English Budgies versus American Budgies is the opposite to what I am finding in mine so I was wondering if mine were the exception to the rule or are all English budgies super active and what I have read about them is incorrect?

I guarantee they are going to be happy with you! What lucky babies they are that you found them, and I can't wait until they join the circus:)
Are you planning on showing them?

Thanks Terry I thought maybe if all goes well and I get them in good feather and looking well in the coming year that I might try showing them...Ive never shown before so this woukd be a whole new adventure if I did go down this route...time will tell but the intention is to show them and I have begun to research a little about showing and all it entails :) They go to the Vet on Thursday for their health check so fingers crossed it all goes well

Fingers crossed that they pass the vet visit with flying colours! One of the bird clubs I am a member of is for small birds, and we have a show every Oct. This year we are having a huge showing of budgies as the budgie club is joining in and bringing a huge number of them. I can help you with some info about our show, and how it works if you like:) Just PM me:)

that would be Great Terry Thanks. I am a member of the …ire Budgerigar Society here and hope to be going to a show in September (Ive never been to a bird show before) just to see what its like. I wont be bringing the birds with me though and if I feel comfortable about what I see youd never know I might decide to enter next year if the other club members feel the birds are of a quality to show...we shall have to wait and see but in the meantime anything I can learn about the shows and showing in general is welcome. Thanks Terry ;) Fingers crossed about the vet visit as they have come via a dealer to the pet store so basically they have probably met every bug going along the way and to add to the likliehood of them picking up anything they werent eating well when I got them because the food wasnt to their liking... I disvovered that they like fresh veg and Harrisons pellets and will only pick a tiny few seeds once the fresh veg and Harrisons are finished so they had not eaten properly either for at least a few days if not the best part of a week while they were travelling. As they have gained weight and look nice and full and rounded as a Budgie aught to and the feathers are being preened and their droppings look good (though the male had loose droppings when he came) Im guessing they are lucky and are in good health but you never know with Budgies for they hide disease so well. All birds hide disease but Budgies even moreso than others so I will be relieved when the vet gives them the all clear :)

I should have added PM sent Thank uou Terry :)

It's interesting Mary, I also find the stereotypes of English don't fit Chip. He is also way more curious about toys and acrobatic than American budgie Twigs was. Mink probably fits more to the English variety 'supposed' characteristics.

You're very welcome, Mary:)
The English budgies I used to have did not like toys and were very sedentary. Mallie, my normal budgie, used to drive poor Merlin crazy with her antics.

my guys are the other way round but vet tells me that Elsa is a very elderly budgie and of course the normal baby budgies Nellow and Primrose are more into each other and though they can climb and swing they have not proved to be as agile as the English budgies but then they too also got off to a bad start in life initially. So perhaps thats why my English budgies are more playful.
They all had a vet visit yesterday and all went well...all are healthy and doing very well and I was really pleased with the outcome of the visit to the clinic. Houdini of course escsped at the clinic and then came and perched on the vets finger. As soon as the carrier door was opened he flew right out past the vet like a bullet... hee hee Houdini sure lived up to his name the vet couldnt believe how fast he was and he too said he never before saw an English budgie so active and fast LoL :) Sorry no pics as I forgot the camera ;(

yes it was one of the first things I noticed about Chip both in the pics and videos was his great interest in toys and when I got Houdini I couldnt believe how acrobatic he was compared to any budgie I had seen or known before Olive is also extremely active and Popeye is now beginning to be active and interested in toys now too as he was very stressed when he came first so he is only now in the lsst few days coming out of his shell and playing with toys. They are big into destroying things and like toys they can kill hee hee :)

Houdini all alone in his big mansion decided it was time to rent out a few perches and possibly make some extra millet or honeysticks along the way as well as gaining some Great house mates so with a view towards the fact that Nellow cannot fly I placed a playground on the floor of the cage for him so he would have some low climbing perches but when I went to take his pic after setting him down to perch on it Nellow was nowhere to be seen

Primrose immediately went to greet Elsa and it was love and lovers little tiffs*at first sight

*

*Then Love again

*

Awwe but look where the missing Nellow* got to...Right up on the highest perch in the cage beside Houdinin....looks like Nellow wont be needing that low playround after all :)

*

Nellow says move over Houdini this is my perch now :)

*

And I dont have a pic of the event but this morning when I took the covers off there was Nelliow again up on the highest perch of all with Houdini on the perch next to him and Nellow had his head bowed down to Houdinis level so Houdini could do his hair for him just like Primrose used to do LoL :)
Meanwhile Primrose and Elsa were already on the ground and digging into breakfast in the food bowls...then after a bit Houdini flew down to join them and he was shortly followed by Nellow who managed to flutter very nicely and gently to where he wanted to land and all 4 ate their brekkie side by side with no squabbles. Its nice to see them become a flock :)

Yay! So nice to see them become a 'flock', and great that they all agree they like each other :D. Your budgies are adorable! I'm so happy for Nellow, that he has learned to get around so well despite his disability.

I'm anxiously awaiting Elsa and Houdini's next circus performance :)!

Thanks Julie. It may take a short while before we get a circus video again because when they flock like that it takes s little time to get them back doing tricks again...we shall do one as soon as they settle in and stop being so flighty...I know people say you lose them when they become a flock but I dont agree with that view you just have to reestablish your own position in the flock and then they start responding again to you...time will tell if I am right...at the moment they are all into being wild budgies and not pretending to know me at all but thats to be expected at least for a few days to a week after suddenly going from one bird in a cage to being part of a flock of four. Primrose and Nellow of course were alwsys together but Elsa and Houdini were used of being on their own in a cage. It will be interesting to see how they all interact and then as a flock build s whole new relationship with me ...at the moment thry are into flying in unison even Nellow joins in this and follows them either to the ground or by him climbing to another branch...this will really help him get strength into those wings and maybe if those feathers grow (and I can see them growing a bit every day) he will learn to fledge and fly
