- Bumble - Pacific (or Celestial) Parrotlet hatched 02/19/17
I went out of town for the weekend - my stepdad turned 75 - and left Bumble at home. My BFF (who owns 5 birds currently) had agreed to come over twice a day - morning to uncover the cage and give her breakfast, and evening to let her out to play, give her dinner, and put her to bed. I left Thursday night and returned yesterday.
On Friday morning, I got a call from BFF and of course I panicked when I saw her name on my phone. I panicked even more when she sounded a little hesitant to tell me what was up. When she realized I was in panic-mode she said, "Oh first - Bumble is FINE." Then the "but" came . . . she and her daughter had heard something beeping in the apartment and when they finally located it, they discovered it was the water sensor by my hot water tank. Leak! And carpet that literally squished it was so wet.
These are the moments that I'm thankful I rent and live in an apartment in 2019. I opened up my complex app and sent in a maintenance request.
Meanwhile, my sister pointed out that plumbers might use any number of toxic smelly things, so I called BFF back and asked if she could take Bumble home. The reason I didn't have her over there already is that in addition to her five birds, she has 2 cats, 2 dogs, and any number of "critters" living there. I thought the chaos would be stressful, and also it's much harder for her to get any out of cage time there. Of course, BFF said certainly and packed her into her "overnight cage" and took her home.
Well. Apparently Bumble had great fun! She immediately started chatting with the cockatiel, flocked-called with the TAG (CAG?), and fit right in, eating at the same time as all the others, etc. BFF took her into the bathroom for a little bit each day to get her out and play.
She was super excited and happy to see me yesterday (BFF brought her to the airport), and the cockatiel now says "peekaboo" the same way Bumble does! Haha!
Oh, and I have a new hot water tank and the carpet in the closet is only a little damp and the apartment is only a little musty. I ran my fan and had all the windows open yesterday, and I'll coat the carpet with baking soda when I get home tonight. And my weekend was fantastic, although I missed my Bum something fierce.
