Building natural playareas. Need pointers.

Hi all. I am planning to build playareas for my baby B&G and Harlequin. Many of my friends cut their own wood so I have access to all kinds of fresh wood such as oak, and other hard woods. What do I need to do to the wood to make sure it's safe for them? Any advice would be apreciated.
