Budgie Wing Clipping/Blood feathers

I need to clip my budgie's wings, because she hit the window flying (she flew right into the curtains), she is okay, no brain damage or breaks, but I want to be safe. I'm sad to do this, as she is flight trained, but I want her to be safe. I've never clipped my budgie's wings, and I want to know what exactly to do. After looking at some pics and doing some research, i found to clip the 5 primaries, on each wing, right below the coverts. Is this right? Pics/vids are welcome Also, i'm afraid i'll snip a blood feather, can anyone post some pics of blood feathers on their birds wings so i know what to look out for? Thanks!

Usually when people first do their birds wings they see an expert do it . Though if you are confident enough or seen someone do it it's okay . I don't have any pics , but just make sure you do it under a bright light and keep styptic powder just in case. .

Why not try and make the room safe for her? Stickers on windows? Window perches? Blinds down when she is flying? Etc.

She flew right into the blinds, as explained in my thread starter Anyway, the room is as safe as I can make it, but you know birds...they always find a way We have broken trust lately when i needed to clot some blood, so this wing clip will help tremendously to regain trust, (the clipping part itself won't) Thanks for your concern

The blinds should have slowed the force of flight though.

Anywho, I'm against clipping as it means you're going to have to force yourself onto the budgie by flooding it. Instead of using positive reinforcement.

THank you! Tomorrow i'm going to see a movie, then when I get home i'll do the clip. It saddens me to do so, but it is for her safety and won't be permanent.

Positive reinforcement is the key. We are allowing both Rio and Kiwi to grow their flight feathers back. Kiwi is bonded and a Velcro bird, Rio is still the new kid on the block and I am working with her. This week has been a bad one for me, so I hope to get back on track with Rio in the next couple of days. Anyway, we a doing a lot of positive reinforcement training. I can't stand that she drops like a rock, I want her to be confident and to trust me completely.

Don't clip her if you can help it. Just work with her. If you need to gain her trust again then look in to goodbird.inc. or on YouTube or the website. The woman Barbara, is wonderful and her tips are very useful. Of course the wonderful people on here are very helpful as well. Use this site and look in to others that can also help give you a balanced outlook on things, from the bird point of view.
