Hi i was first thinking to buy a green cheek conure but Christine mentioned to me a budgie and well i have had a budgie before but i was only 7 so didnt really experience anything with it it wasn't tame!

Anyways people say budgies are just amazing, i wanna know if they are snuggly and like to sit on your finger, shoulder etc. So anyone who has info would be very helpful, i want to know about their diet, how to care and yes i will do research on them before i buy one but info from personal experiences would be nice. Are these charming little birds snuggly and cuddl,y i really want a bird which would enjoy my company and yes it will get a lot of attention. Another question,if i put another bird with a budgie will it ne ok and will the bond between me and my budgie or anyother bird still be strong. Thanks a lot finding this forum really useful, will definitelypost opics of the bird once i purchase it. :whiteblue::blue2::green:

P.s does this bird give off a lot of dander!!!!!!??????

P.s yes i will go to pet stores or try to atleast find one to interact with before i get one

Budgies are great! Small, entertaining, easy to maintain, and no dust that I am aware of. My boyfriend just got one and it is his first bird. :) But while his bird does let people hold him, that doesn't mean he's cuddly... yet. Who knows? We're still trust training! You have to be patient with a bird. Where it took my friend (who has 2 budgies) a couple of months just to get one of them to step up, my boyfriend's was happy to be handled day one.

I say this and I honestly believe that it is true, the bird will choose YOU. When I got my bird (a cockatiel) the place I went to had to have had at least 20 different 'tiels, PLUS lovebirds and conures and amazons! But one bird, now my bird, stuck out to me amongst the crowd. And you know what? When I went to ask to hold him, he was petrified of the store associates hands, my hands, he tried so hard to fly away. But I still said "yup, he's the one!". And I was right. I could just feel it, you know?

I wish you good luck in finding your feathered friend, and we will all be here to help you with whatever advice you may need along the way. :D

Hi thanks for the info and i will go to a petstore and see which one stand out but still trying to find a store that actually sells animals and not just accessories anyways is it ok to buy a bird from a petstore or not?????

I think that's a matter of opinion... You may be happier purchasing a bird from either a breeder or a store that specializes in birds. From my experience, national chains like Petsmart don't have much to choose from and the upkeep of their animals is questionable.

So did u get urs from a petstore or breeder

I personally purchased from a store that specializes in parrots. We have a few of those here in the LA area. :)

Budgies make great pets. I've had them in the past, both the normal and English varieties. From my experience I found the English Budgies to be a bit more cuddly, however I do think it also depends on each bird :)

There are some budgies that do become cuddly. If you look at YouTube, you will find many examples. Many tame budgies just prefer sitting on your hand or shoulder and enjoy your company without being touched too much.

My English Budgie was handfed, and that made it a lot easier to handle her. I got her from an exotic bird store where the owner bred her. The English are a much larger budgie. They're cute birds. Just a word of caution, when you get a budgie from a large chain pet store, they obtain their stock from "bird mill" breeders, where the genetics are random and commonly are not the strongest in health because of that.

I would definitely go with a breeder. The bird will be handled and used to humans. Like others have mentioned the chain pet stores seem to "stock" budgies in crowded cages sometimes only getting handled when someone chooses to buy them. While they CAN be tamed I think you'll have more luck with one who already has a head start. I had a pet store budgie who lived 13 yrs. The pet store handled him regularly and he often was riding on shoulders and in pockets so even though he might not have been Handfed he sure was tame. Did not know how to bite! In 13 yrs did not bite me even once. He LOVED having his head scratched and would fluff up his head and close his eyes. Would hang out with you no problem as long as his cage was out of sight. He learned how to imitate the phone ringing and imitated some whistles. He was always chattering but most of it I couldn't decipher. Wonderful wonderful first bird. Glad you're considering one.

Thanks guys, but another question, my sister wants a budgie, of course, ill help her take care of it but I want a bird that will bond with me and be my companion. Now I was wondering if I keep a conure with a budgie will it be ok, if not and I get two budgies then will they bond with each other rather than me.

Also, plz name a few birds that can stay with a budgie right now I am sooooo confused, I think I might just get a quaker and get her a budgie, but if they don't like each other we will be sure to keep them separate.
