Budgie eye injury

Dill, a cockatiel
Petey, a budgie
Scout, a budgie
Boo, Rest In Peace, sweet angel
I accidentally spooked my birds today by knocking a seed bag over and they all took off around the room. My budgie collided with my cockatiel, and when he finally landed, he was squinting one eye and rubbing it on his perches. I really can’t tell where he injured himself as there was no bleeding. All I can really see is maybe a little redness on the skin surrounding the eye (but feathers are in the way) and he doesn’t seem to bring the upper lid down anymore when he closes his eye. He’s acting like his usual self, except he keeps the bad eye closed more often. Does anyone know what I can do to help him? :(

I would get him to a vet if it doesn't get better in a day, maximum. Even for humans, eye injuries should be seen by a medical professional.

Thanks so much for your advice. I’m monitoring him closely, so I will take him to the vet if things don’t get better.

And thank you for the welcome! You all are wonderful, and I’m learning so much :grey:

Ouch, sorry to hear of potential eye injury. Agree with Bug, above. Avian eyes are quite different from mammals, so avian vet best suited. Hopefully it is just a mild abrasion, eyes tend to heal quickly. Ophthalmic solutions can be prescribed if needed.

Little guy seems to be doing fine today! His eye looks normal, and he isn’t closing or rubbing it anymore. I’m hoping it was just a minor irritation. Thanks so much for your help everyone!

Good to hear! Apparently just an irritation or swelling that subsided overnight.
