So with having two parrotlet pairs now, I am looking into purchasing a brooder. After doing some searches online, I just about choked. $500-$1000 seems, well, slightly ridiculous for what is basically a heated box.

When I bred budgies, I will admit, I rigged up a brooder using two plastic critter keepers, a hermit crab heating pad, and some fleece. It did work, and I had healthy babies, but I would really prefer to do this right this time around. So I am wondering if anyone either knows a reasonable place to purchase a brooder or a reliable way to make a brooder.

I would really prefer to co-parent instead of handfeed babies, but I am not at a place with these breeders yet where that is feasible. Hopefully in the future that will be an option, but as of now, it is not.

So, any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I use the Aviquarium10. I think I paid around $150, but they aren't always in stock so you have to plan ahead to get one. I use it in conjunction with a cheap digital thermometer from petsmart just to verify that the temp inside is actually what I think it is.

Thank you, that is much more reasonable than what I've found looking online. I just can't justify spending $500 to $1000 on basically a heated box, especially since I'm not trying to run a huge operation. I'm just breeding a couple pairs because I enjoy them, not because I'm trying to operate a business.

I had one made for me. Considering how expensive the ones available through pet stores/comercial businesses are, I found a local breeder who makes them for people in my area. I paid $160 for mine, which included all materials, the heat lamps/pad, digital themometer, and power cords All that and she's even happy to deliver it to you. :D
Though I'm in Austalia, you might be able to find breeders, handraisers, or similar who make them...?

Have you looked into the cooler brooders? That's next on my wish list :)
