It's been so long since I have posted anything on this site, but I need some help!
I am adopting a female canary (I think, it does not sing) and the poor girl has it's left leg broken. It has been to the vet and they said she is fine, but may never regain full use of her leg. :-(.
I have a HUGE flight cage already, but I am going to keep her in a small cage (so she can't fly) until the leg heals up. How long do they take to heal? How will I know it's healed? The poor leg looks a little blue at the base where it connects to the body. The leg itself looks fine and looks like blood still flows in it. I guess my question would be, is there anything that I can do to speed the healing process up? Would a lizard heating pad help to increase body temp? With a towel in between the pad and bird of course. I know heat helps with sickness in birds. At least I think it does, right?
Here is a pic of my poor bird! I am worried about the drive home. Four hours! :-/. I am already got zoomed pellets and Timothy hay for her. I also got some seed. I am just going to put a lot of hay in the box and let her snuggle while I drive. Would music be ok as long as it's not too loud? Or should I just have a quit ride home? Thanks for the help and any suggestions!
