Bringing in a new IRN

I have a baby IRN that is around 5 weeks old that has now taken to being social with the family. Now I am looking to bring in another IRN around the same age. I hear from people that putting two IRNs together will get them closer and they will tend to stay away from us. Is this true? If yes, what should I do to get both parrots to be as bonded with us as they are towards each other?

No, that is not typically true for Ringnecks as long as you train them both; but I would caution you that 5 weeks is EXTREMELY YOUNG and the baby should still be hand feeding. Also, I suggest two males. Females can become extremely violent even when raised together. I just had a friend tell me one of her girls turned on her sister and KILLED HER, and the birds aren’t even a year old yet.


Of course you also need to quarantine the new bird and introduce them slowly. Never EVER add a new bird to an existing birds cage.

Thanks SilverSage. I'l start with the quarantine. Just for your info - I haven't caged the first baby yet. It's been growing on a shallow tray roaming around freely around the house.

Hold up....as in roaming within his tray right? Not unsupervised around the house? because if so, baby parrots can be like baby humans....and you need to 'baby proof' in similar ways.

Not within the tray @itchyfeet. All over the house but well supervised. He doesn't come out of the safe house (that is the tray) unless he hears one of us.

By the way, how do I add pics? No option in here
