Hi everyone!

So, today I've brought home a 6 month GCC. In a way, I feel as if I've just rescued the poor little guy to be honest. I bought him from a home who I believe haven't treated him exactly well. Firstly, his wings are pretty banged up, and are very dull when compared to other Conures. Their version of "clipped wings" to me looks like and absolute butchering. I bought him purely to give him a better home and life, thus the name, "Lucky". I was presented with Lucky outside of the home, so I couldn't see exactly what type of conditions he was facing.

Since coming home (about 4 hours or so) Lucky has had quite an appetite. I've given him some fresh veggies, a small amount of seed and pellets. He will eat, then perch and close his eyes. He is so quiet though and not active at all. I haven't heard a peep out of him. I'm not sure if i'm mistaking him for sick, or just stressed at being in a brand new environment. Being 6 months also, could his wing condition be from the beginning of a molt?

I've only ever had experience with cockatiels in the past, and I just want to give my little guy the best new life. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looking forward to hearing from all of you!

Stef

I'll chime in with my two cents then let the more experienced people give more detailed advice.

First off, congrats on your new fid!! I've got a cinnamon GCC myself :)

If you haven't yet, I would take him to an avian vet for a general wellness check. Especially since you believed he came from a bad situation. It could be that he's just stressed from the move, but it's always better to be safe than sorry.

i'll be bringing in Lucky to the vet tomorrow, so i'll make sure I post an update. Thanks again!

when my gccs stuff their beaks with food they often go take a nap.
So it isn't unusual, but with a new bird especially if you think he wasn't treated that good ,is taking them to a vet never a wrong thing.
And congrats with lucky, hope to see some pictures.

I got the all clear from the Vet, so I guess its time now to bond! I will post some photos as soon as I can!

Thanks everyone for your input!

One thing I should mention is when babies are young, they're rough on their feathers such as wings and feathers. They tend to break, bend, etc. Clipped feathers will grow back during molt. Some just don't know how to clip properly thus butchering the clip pretty bad or due to dull pair of scissors.

Congrats on your new little baby!! :) Lucky is probably just overwhelmed and stressed from the move. Lukah was sleepy all the time and very quiet when I first brought him home- now, almost a year later, I couldn't get him to shut up or sit still if you paid me!

Also just a random input, you said you gave him seeds and pellets, but make sure his diet is primarily pellet supplemented with fruits and lots of veggies. Seeds as treats :) You might already be doing that, just wanted to mention it!
