So I decided to bring Yoshi home next week, end of next week. I will be down where my parents live and he is about an hour away from there. I will take this at an advantage and use the whole next week to learn how to hand feed him and if I am comfortable I will bring him home after 6 days, which means 6 hand feeding practice sessions with the breeder. he is on two hand feedings now and really wanted to bond with him during this time. I know many of you wonderful parronts strongly feel that he should be fully weaned before bringing him home. But the breeder assured me that unless I was completely comfortable and in control of the hand feeding she would not let Yoshi go home with me. And I myself would be take that chance either. Very excited and a bit nervous as well. I start my first session on monday night :04:

Hi, I'm the mean old man down the street that has been telling you since you were five to stay off his grass. So no surprise, I'm going to now tell you that bring any Parrot home before it is 'proven' to be fully on solid food (fully weaned) is not a great idea. In fact, I am such an old fuddy duddy, that I still believe that a Parrot should not be released from a Breeder until they are fully Fledged (i.e. they are Fliers). Yes I have heard it all before; I'm Over the Hill, Older than Dirt and just not living in the Real World any more and to that I say, Yup, that be me!

In all honesty, there is likely nothing that I can say that would compel you to wait a few more weeks. After all you have made-up your mind, and have gotten the blessing from the breeder, so you're good! And, being just as honest, there is an equal chance that you are a rapid learner, your breeder is an excellent teacher, all will work wonderfully and the old grump will have been proven wrong again. To that I say, I truly hope that to be true. In fact, I would welcome that happening!

Regarding 'bonding' with a Parrot prior to finishing Weaning. If that was so true, then why are any of the fully Weaned Parrots bonding to all those individuals that are not getting their babies earlier? In fact and even more odd, how does any Parrot bond after they have been fully Fledged? That Story has been long ago debunked. The Story remains because of 'breeders' that want to transform chicks in to cash!

So, prior to leaving to pick-up your new baby. Please make an appointment to visit your Avian Vet as soon as you arrive back home. Also garner their after hours phone numbers, etc...

I truly do hope this all goes very well. I truly hope that you prove me wrong!

You had me laughing at "fuddy duddy".... I respect your advice, and will only bring him home if i am comfortable. I did make an appointment with my other birds avian specialist. I even wrote her a lenghtly email giving her a heads up about Yoshi.

P.S- i always liked the mean old man that always yelled at me to stay off their grass. They have way too much wisdom, experience and advice to give you, After they're done yelling at you of course.

Definitely sage advice! Please do not take chances with Yoshi unless you are flawlessly comfortable with hand feeding. It is as much an art as science. Should you reconsider, the brief amount of extra time will be well worth the patience!!

I can sense your excitement and no wonder. Absolutely no shame if Yoshi needs a little more time with the breeder but hey you get some cuddles in and some feeding tuition also. Good luck but stay grounded.
