Breeding Bird's Temperament

Hi All!
I was recently told by an experienced breeder that breeder bird's temperament was quite wild and aggressive and not like pet macaws at all. But I have read that birds who are mean and aggressive were poorly raised. Is it true that the attitude and demeanor of breeding birds is wild and maybe even dangerous? My birds are very nice for the most part, but I have hand raised most of them myself or got them very young. I know when protecting eggs they can get unpredictable.....but?

The reason breeder birds are aggressive are due to breeder birds should not be handled at all or try to bond with them, their job is to bond with eachother and make babies. Bonded Macaws should not be seperated, they should be housed together but this does not mean that they are to be neglected in any way, they should be able to go outside to an outdoor aviary and have all their needs met by their owners.
They should not be handled in the way one would handle a pet Macaw. There is a huge difference. If the Macaw bonds with you and not their mate, chances of the Macaw breeding are slim to none. Thanks Joe

Depends! I've seen owners with bonded pair of macaws that do just fine with the owner as they do with each other and they've raised chicks just fine as well. Most of the time I do see them being totally aggressive. So some of them are rare occasions.
