Rio (Yellow sided conure) sadly no longer with us
So I may or may not have asked a breeder about some very unique conures trying to understand how they are compared to green cheeks.

Now my main thing is this breeder is about 4 hours drive from me. For bringing a bird home how would I go about it? They have said they can get a bird courier to bring them around the country for 22P a mile which I am tempted to do if I were to get one from this breeder, but how would one go about doing the trip with their new bird?

Can you drive/have a vehicle?

If so you would need a carrier with a perch and I also put a fleece doggy blanket on the bottom as absorbs falls. I have a little doggy cage, cheap as chips, well lots of chips actually.

The bird would be going four hours one way, you on the other hand would be doing eight hours two ways.

Take a friend and share the driving?

Where is the breeder located/County?

Research the courier though.

yeah I have my own car, MOT due next week and I know I need to get some bits done to it (minor stuff) so that's a main drain on finances hence the wait. I was going to find a proper travel cage, be it either way for any vet visits and what-not so no issue there either along with a blanket.

the breeder is in south wales, I'm just to the west of London

My plan for the driving would be to do the collecting over a weekend, so diving up on a saturday, spending some time with the bird (I hope to go an meet the clutch a few times beforehand to pick one out as this breeder lets people visit) then staying overnight in a hotel followed by the drive back the next day after some morning food. I would share the drive but my main friend I'd take doesn't have a license. Definitely would be the longest drive I'd had though. I'm going to birmingham in a couple weeks so that should give me the taste I need for long distance. I'm waiting on them to message back so fingers crossed I get some good news. They sound like a pretty good breeder so I'm starting to get a lil bit excited. If it wasn't for money I'd be asking to visit the current clutch this weekend haha

Ok you have it covered. Just remember to take breaks and you will be fine. Kids are back at school just about so that helps.

oh don't worry I don't think I could hammer it down the motorway that long! a couple pit stops to top off food and water for both of us on the way back home. Of course this is all hypothetical right now, I'm hoping that it becomes a definite though. I'd have to get a folder together for cites papers and other bits I need to do with it

What does this involve? Do you need CITES documents when you buy any bird now? All this is a bit vague?

oh no, I forgot to say! The bird is a Blue Throated Conure, which require CITES papers due to them being endangered in the wild. And for other bits I mean vet details things like that, just to keep a record going. I was probably going to do the same for any bird really

Sounds like you have a good plan. I would certainly prefer to collect rather than have a courier, although I know there are plenty of good ones, I would just enjoy the collection myself.

Glad to hear you're planning to share your life with another little feathered one

Like Fish & Chips?

In my area of the World, that 'Amazon' carrier would be Fish & Chips for two, plus a couple of pints each! :D

Can't remember the name of the large English Fish & Chips chain, but enjoyed a fair number of dinners there over the years.

Yes, that's it; Harry Ramsdens! Was staying in a village some place in the Midlands and they had a Harry's on one corner and village 'gathering place' on another. They would let their customers sit in their outside area and eat Ramsdens Fish & Chips and drink their freshly drawn pints - evenings to remember!

Ooops indeed! :D

The toll is being taken away soon although not sure when that is. They're up in Treherbert so not too far from Newport

Heck id have to pick up the bird myself. The drive would be the start of bonding time. Being handy making things myself I would fashion a travel cage from a card board box.. a few perches and some fluffy towels. Save the $ for any other of the birds needs.

If you are going to The Staffs show they have travel/doggy cages there.

Dartford Bridge/Tunnel now electronic tolls so guess following suit, like going into London.
