Brand new Skitty pics!

Ollie weighs in at a very petite 103 grams and is perfectly healthy, eats like a pig in heat and has that fatty bit on his chest. He's just a small little guy. Finley is GIANT for his species (nanday) and weighs in at a whopping 137 to 145 grams depending on the day and wow he is like a huge chunk compared to Ollie and they are supposed to be the same size. It all depends on the bird just like we are taller or shorter.

Exactly. I mean the weight span for suns is 100g-130g which is a pretty wide range. Skittles weighs in at between 118g-120g and like Ollie he never stops eating. Skittles is a little piggy! Yet he isn't overweight at all. I actually got concerned a few times at the vet cause he looked so skinny and while I could feel plenty of muscle on either side of his breastbone, I could still clearly feel the breastbone and the vet said thats how it should be, you should be able to feel it. It shouldn't be 'covered' (like with fat or muscle). I think the main reason he eats so much is because of all the flying he does around the house. But thats good for him.

I have trained him to land on my finger now. Normally, I would 'tap' my hand on my shoulder and say 'come on' to signal him and he'd fly right over. Sometimes I wouldn't even have to tap but just say "come on".

Now, I got him to fly right to my finger. I used treats to teach him and he picked up quickly! He already knows how to shake hands and I'm trying to teach him to do a 'high five' but I think I'm confusing him with that one. lol.

Good old skittles, he is looking stunning. He has such beautiful plumage. Sun conures are seriously beautiful birds!

Its the result of proper diet and plenty of exercise. Plus lots of cuddling, scratchies and kissies!

He's gotten some treats and I'm letting him stay up later.

He's actually been a PERFECT angel today. Even let me use my meat grinder to make ham salad. Though he normally doesn't have an issue with kitchen appliances (I think cause he knows they are used to prepare "food") lol.

I got some more Skitty pics to share in the next few days but I haven't been feeling well lately. Woke up sick yesterday and today I thought I was dying, lol, cause I guess I got the flu (OR a real bad cold!)

Anyways, something happened this afternoon that I just had to share it was such a riot.

I have this vaporizer on my nightstand that I sometimes run when I go to bed, and since i've been sick, I decided to run it while I rested this afternoon. It has a 'directional' adjuster to select in what direction to spray the mist. Well, Skitty wasn't too happy about it. He flew over onto my pillow and got between me and the mist and was trying to attack it. It was such a freaking riot!

I don't know about him. He's just so protective of his daddy!

Here are a few new pics of Skittles. I just took them today. He is pretty much done with his molt, just has a few 'pinnies' here and there that are still too sensitive to touch. I have more, but heres a little taste. lol. Sadly, he wasn't being very cooperative so I was unable to get a back picture of him. Hopefully, I'll be able too soon.

He was at it again this afternoon. My friend called and we were chatting and during our conversation he went nuts and she was like "he must see something", but the blinds were closed so it had to be IN the apartment but I couldn't find anything. Then I noticed the TV screen, I had updated and rebooted the Roku which reset the screen saver so it was no longer a picture but instead a logo of the work "Roku" bouncing all around the screen. Once I turned the picture off, he stopped.

"It was a big bad ROKU daddy! I stopped it for ya!"

Uhoh, you don't know yet? lol

I got Skittles DNA tested at his first vet checkup less than a month after I got him. I was all excited! I wanted him to be a boy and he is! I had my Peaches back then, a cockatiel and she was a girl.

I have a DNA certificate from a California lab that says "Skittles" on it and then my last name. It's soo cute!

But you can do a DNA test at home I think. Some people on this site have done it so you can search the posts.

Once I get over this cold/flu (I see the doctor tomorrow), I want to sort through all those pictures I got on my memory card and share some of them. I also want to do another photo set now that he's finished his molt.

I sent an email update to his breeder (I hadn't sent her an update in over a year) and she was thrilled with how he looks. Her comments meant a LOT. She said this:

"Skittles looks AWESOME. His feathers, beak and nails are looking very good and he looks very healthy. His eyes are nice and big and shiny. You are such a good dad."

That's GOT to feel good! :) I know I was beaming with pride when the vet told us how good Yoda looks and how good we are taking care of him.

Good it feels, yes. Told how good one is- to be, yes.
