Hello everyone. I've wanted a macaw for awhile to travel the county with me. I've read a lot and learned as much as I could before committing to looking for one. Well last week a went to look at one and felt so sorry for him I had to bring him home. He has a feather problem and me being a first time owner is probably gonna have some questions. Looking for a good vet around Augusta GA too.

Hi I'm new to birds too. What a challenge taking on a large bird as your first! I hope you get all of your answers taken care of!

Start calling around to all the vets in your area, you'll eventually run into someone who knows a good avian vet. That's what I did. I found two, one through a local pet store who knew of one and one through calling local vets and asking. Now I have two options, I guess I'll figure out which is better in the end just by going to them.

Isn't it infuriating to see beautiful birds in crappy situations? It just burns me. Is it really so hard to take care of what someone says they wanted and brought home? If they didn't want to do the work, why did they get one???

This one was hand raised by an older couple for 14 years then ended up on display in a retail store for a couple months and wasn't happy or cared for very well. Now we're living the dream together. He is my firstbird and would rather started with one with out feather problems already but had to try and help him. He seems really happy pretty much all the time but doesn't want me touching him at all. We got nothing but time to lean each other's ways
