The noises they make while they're .... 'at it' are just a tad bit too revealing, aren't they Laura? :32: Almost...human like (at the end).

Yes, and it's very much, a gentleman wouldn't make a lady go back down on her playstand until she's had her happy ending... all the while pressing her face against my cheek.
My conures were bad about that as well.
The macaws - well - you get puked on a lot, but that's about it. I've had friends who have had this problem with their macaws. I really haven't with these two.
My CAG doesn't really do any of that.

WOW! I guess my AMY is really an AMOS! she does not exhibit any of that behavior. I had a friend live with me for awhile and she had a DYH Shainna..she knew Shainna was a female coz she had laid eggs before.
And when Shainna got into "the mood", geez she made all sorts of noises!
Smokey,my TAG I THINK was a female,however she didn't lay any eggs,but when she got on my shoulder,she would tug at my ear,gurgle in it,and bob her head then puke on me.

Do males not get frisky like this? Nacho's previous owner along with my vet think he is a male. But he is definitely in the mood... even with simple head scratches. His rear end sticks straight up, the wings flip, and he makes interesting noises. He also does something where it... well... not sure how to describe it without being crude but I'll just say it looks like exactly what a dog does on your leg...but with wings.

Well besides me...spring has her constantly in the mood for love and she has decided that when I am not available her big ball bell is a good stand in. The noises she makes while doing this are just pathetic, poor girl!
I am embarrassed for her:54: Kiwi did his "male version" of that the first few years we had him. Noises were just as bad as a female (my mom's DYH does it too in the spring). Thankfully, Kiwi seemed to learn no one around here liked him like 'that' and hasn't done his humping display in several years.

I've (sadly) seen male and female masturbation in amazons:31: Males raise a leg and hump, females stick their butt up/rub their butt on something and shake their wings. Females also tend to be more, uh, vocal. It's a pretty visible difference. That's how we KNOW Kiwi is a male (prior owner said he was DNA'd male, but we never had that confirmed, though after his first hormonal season with us, we were 150% sure!).

Yeah there is no doubt that Brady is a Sadie but unfortunately she says her name very clear and often. I don't think I could change it.
It doesn't really bother anyone here we don't encourage it (or try not to anyway sometimes all it takes is a look from me). We don't discourage it either, perfectly natural.

I have a video of him with his behind in the air and flipping wings. In this video I didn't even have to scratch his head to get him started! I don't have a video of him doing the other behaviors.
He did the behind up, wing flipping at the vet's office and I asked her if gender could be distinguished based off of this behavior and she said no.

I would say I agree with your vet as it applies to conures. Nacho could be either sex based on that video but with fully mature amazons it is often very clear.

I can't resist, Poppy is having hormonal issues too, mostly with her toys and perches.
The only time I've ever seen her regurgitate, I accidentally caught it on camera. I was just taking silly photos of her with a Halloween zombie that she couldn't play with for obvious reasons, but she fell head over heels for the zombie.
Those are old photos, this year she's more vocal and more amorous.

I know some people get a little freaked out when they see their birds getting a little amorous with one of their toys, but I actually go out of my way to preserve that area as is for them. (As long as it's not on the "nesty" side) No need to rotate the position on that one when it's already guaranteed to make them happier than any of their other toys! Lol!
