I'm going out of town for a couple days, and I don't know if the house I will be visiting is bird friendly, and I don't think they'll let Puck into the San Diego Zoo, so I decided to board him. I put him up at the parrot rescue (they board also). I think it's a better environment (and diet, etc) than the bird store, which is closer to me.
He seemed happy there. I picked a high cage, right under the bright lights he likes so much. I put some of his toys in, and they had other toys and perches in there too. The lady gave him a bowl full of fresh food, birdie bread, nuts, etc, and he immediately started chowing down and purring. He has his pellets too. From his cage he can see a pair of white-bellied caiques, whom seemed very interested in him, and vice versa. He actually jumped on their cage, but I didn't know them, so I took him off immediately. I almost put him in the cage next to them, but it wasn't lit as well. Puck is TINY compared to them! He's only 140 grams, but seems to be meaty and in good health. I think he's just little. His closest neighbors are a grey and I think a senegal. He grew up with an grey, so maybe he'll appreciate that. I think he will definitely appreciate being around all the birdies.
He seemed happy, but however I started having separation anxiety before I even left the store! I miss him now. I will probably call a couple times during the day to check in on him. Luckily, the stay is only a couple days (Wednesday evening through probably sometime on Friday). Hopefully I will have fun on my trip too.
