Hi, I hope I sent the pictures properly this is my first attempt! This is Iolo (pronounced Yollo) who I bought a year ago. He was sold to me as a Blue Fronted Amazon but I think that he maybe an Orange Winged instead. If it is any help when he starts calling he sounds like the shower scene in the film 'Psycho'. He is great fun and wonderful company. Can anyone confirm whaty breed he is? Nick

Hi welcome! Looks like a lilac crowned Amazon.....but I really don't know Amazon's....tell us more about you guys? The Amazon species thread has some great sticky at the top, read through them , I did and I don't have one lol,

Oh looked at a species page you probably right orange wing!

Orange wing. I would like a shot at the top of her/his head to be sure.

Definitely an orange wing! :’)

No doubt in my mind, that is an OWA based on the photo. The mottled thicker beak, slightly darker shade of green, lack of visible red or yellow on the shoulders of the wings, "Zorro mask" band of blue and the blue being a truer shade of blue (where as a BFA has more of a turquoise blue) are all indicators this little guy is an OWA. He also looks significantly smaller than a typical a.Xanthopteryx and does not have the right colorations for an a.aestiva (the 2 recognized species of BFA), though photos can be deceiving. Any idea of his weight (in grams)?

OWAs are a smaller species amazon and actually known to generally be calmer/more gentle birds than BFAs. What is this sweeties name? May be the picture but he looks to still be quite young. Has he seen an avian vet yet? If not, you should get him a checkup and established as a patient. The avian vet can determine gender and also confirm species.
