Orange winged amazon jack
Just had an amazon parrot. The lady i had him from did say he was a blue fronted but i think hes an orange winged.
I only paid £250 for him as i already had a cage etc...

Can anyone see from the pic which species he is?

Thanks in advance for any replies ☺

Congrats on your new zon. He is a beautiful orange wing! He looks very healthy too, is he a younger bird or a rehome?

I have rehomed him the lady said he was about 4 years old. Hes missing a couple of his nails and some of the others are in a nasty shape curling back round on them selves. I am taking him to the avian vet soon was just giving him a couple of days to settle in before making him go in a pet carrier again .

Ive been doing some reading up on him and it says that they're not the best talkative birds but great mimickers. Is that true?
Doesnt fuss me either way as hes already got a great personality.

Im not that knowledgeable on amazons as ive only kept an african grey in the past. But i rehomed him from an old age and he passed away a couple of years ago. And thought i would see what the amazons are like

What's his name? Does he speak now? Most Amazons are capable of learning to talk, but it always depends on each individual bird. :)

His name is jack. The lady said he says loads of things but mostly ive only heard him mimic noises.
Im trying to get him used to me he wont get on my hand or my arm but he will climb on his cane and let me get him out the cage, then he will climb back in himself when hes ready.

He'll come down on to the floor and play with his toys but wont get right up close to me yet.

But he will whistle when i say hello or goodbye. And hes picked up some funny noises from his last home ☺

I fostered an older orange wing for awhile, she didn't have any human speech but did mimick some sounds, she was playful and would take treats through the cage but did not care to be handled. My husband couldn't stand the sharp loud call she had though (sounded like someone's annoying alarm clock going off that she'd picked up on) I actually enjoy zons, but they are quite the individuals :)

Yes jack has picked up some annoying noises :32:
I think his last owner also kept cockatiels as he is immitating their sound

Hes really fun though. I even managed to get him to step up onto my arm earlier which is great progress from just using his stick.
He wont let me tickle him yet though. :)

Orange wings tend to be on the shy side for amazons. They need to get to know you first, but once they do, the goofy comes out in them...

Zilla was 28 when I got her and hadn't had the best of life before she came to me.

It took her awhile to get to know me (and to get well) but now she would be a velcro attachment on my shoulder if I would let her. She finger/beak wrestles, and is always climbing into my shirts like a conure. She is happiest when "hanging" with me no matter if I am doing the most boring things, she is just a super loving/attention grabbing feather butt! I bet in time yours will blossom and his personality will bloom.

He is cute! I love amazons, they are honest birds, you see what you will get usually before you get it - once you can read them that is. Just pay attention, you will read him in no time.
