Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a 5-month-old Blue Fronted Amazon Parrot. We didn’t notice anything unusual when I bought it, but I’ve recently observed that one of its toenails is slightly twisted.

Will this issue resolve over time, or is there something I should do about it?

What a cute baby!
The most important thing is to get him checked by an avian vet. Every parrot owner should have an avian vet give their parrot an initial health evaluation and if and when their bird needs vet care they have someone trusted to take him to.

He may have a congenital defect or it may have been injured before you got him and it healed slightly crooked. Whatever the cause, it looks very minor to me. I have budgies with much more severe toe deformities or toes missing from injuries and they all do well. Some birds with toe deformities need their perches padded with vet wrap, that stretchy bandaging material vets use so frequently, for comfort and to prevent pressure sores. An avian vet will advise you about wrapping his perches.
I hope this helps.

What's the baby's name? Male or female? Are you going to get him DNA tested to find out? You probably should. Hormonal behaviors are easier to understand when you know the gender.

That's a pretty parrot. The toenail doesn't look too serious to me and shouldn't give him any trouble. It could be permanent. My old YCA George had a corkscrew toenail that remained that way all his life. He got along fine but the nail had to be trimmed twice a year by his veterinarian.

Thank you so much for your advice, I really appreciate it! It was very helpful.

Thank you! Of course, I'll take him to the vet as soon as possible.

Should not matter to him at all or his quality of life. he is a handsome looking youngster!
Thank you, that was a good news.

His name is 'Kiwi.' My son named him :) I don't know the gender of the parrot—I haven't had a DNA test done yet, but I’ll do the test as soon as possible.
