Anyone ever smell the perfume type of smell from a B&G?
All the other Macaws I have had(GW's, Military) never did this? Most of the time he just smells like a macaw (which i like) but after a misting this afternoon when I was coming back in with him on my hand man did he smell good.
I have read about this but never experienced it.
What say you?

I think they smell very similiar to a pionus. It smells like honeycombs to me and I love it. Really a neat experience.

Hannibal (a greewing) had a very sweet smell to me. He made me think of a fruit basket.

Ha Ha We've really talked alot about birdy smells this week. I like the smell of my amazon after he bathes. MikeyTN you are the one thats weird.

Bird sniffers :p

*Hides away as he knows he'll probably sniff his bird now when he gives the bird a bath*

I said it before and I'll say it again... I love my stinky amazon!

Haha yea I think all parrots have a flowery smell. On another forum weve talked about birds smells due to camouflage.

This smell is unique to B&G's, I have never experienced this smell on any other Macaw.
Copied from the web;
"One thing unique to the Blue and Gold is the scent they can give off at will (smells like fresh sun shine and light cologne) if you have a Blue and Gold than you know what I'm talking about."

Mac does give off a sweet smell at times.

It doesn't always seem to be there or maybe I'm just busy and don't notice it all the time.

The smell if one of the first things I noticed about my SI eclectus! She honestly smelt so much like honey I thought it was the owners perfume!! I sat there sniffing her for a bit before I realized it was her!!

Our two Blue and Golds (both girls) have that sweet smell starting in early spring once the windows can be opened. It may be to attract males, not sure on that, but it is a very sweet smell. I love it. The smell isn't always there either.

Yes, Blue & Gold macaws have a very distinctive smell, I walked into a bird rescue last weekend & it brought back memories of my old B & G that I had for over 10 years. I enjoy the smell. My hand fed B & G that I got as a baby & finished hand feeding myself was very sweet. I could hang him by his beak, turn him over onto his back, hang him upside down by his feet & he loved all of it!

cockatoo's have a very sweet sugary smell to them. i've never sniffed a grey though xxx

I love this thread, This forum is Great too. If I hadent JUST started my second job/new job, I think I might have gotten a bird this spring, as it is, I might be doing something else... again... I really need to settle down before I get a bird.

IF I do what that crazy women did, (whos homeless) someone SHOOT me and rescue my bird please! (she got herself arrested, then peed outside our bosses office in the bushes there. then she got her bird back, whos In Terrible shape, and left with all her bags and her dog in tow)
