Black pieces within sunflower seeds

A few times, I find black/brown woodlike things within a pile of sunflower seeds in the bags. I buy the seeds from Dr. Foster and Smith. What are these weird black things?

I guess no one experienced the same problem. What brand sunflower seeds do you buy?

I see it in wild bird seed all the time, it's just pieces and stems from the sunflower.
