Neo: Black headed Caique
Hi Guys,

My caique is coming along nicely and is a lovely little thing...

nervous of new people but with 30 mins work and attention grows to like anyone...

anyway, recently after having a shower and now just walking into the room from my bathroom or from downstairs he starts fluffing himself up and acting very angry towards me / my face....

he hasnt bitten my fingers yet but i tested it out and held him up above my head slightly and tilted my head forwarded slowly and he bit my hair... didnt hurt obviously but i could tell he really meant it...

Strange thing is he can be fine for hours like tonight, playing with me then onto his cage way above me playing with toys etc... then i go to the loo... walk back in looking exactly the same and he gets angry all of a sudden.

Anyone shed any light on this at all, it seems to be a random occurance. But i dont know how to deal with it? He isnt angry with me or viscious with me but would be to my face / hair if he got close enough.... other times hes next to my face playing with buttons on my tshirt etc etc... never bitten me.

any help would be appreciated.

Are you 100% positive it is anger, and not excitement?

I once ran into a BHC that was absolutely insane about hair. He scared my mother nearly to death by climbing up her arm (we were at the pet store) and rolling around rather violently on top of her head until we could get him off of her. He was having a heck of a time.

100% anger... if hes on my shoulder he will play with my hair or ear sometimes... but as i say, randomly will adopt a wide stance fluffed up and lerch forward to bite if in his cage...

when out on my finger he is fine to be touched but is staring at my face / hair. he eventually calms down and starts playing and is fine again...

i just dont understand why he gets like it? I am not scared of him he hasnt ever jumped at my face or bitten me... but as i said in previous post bit my hair hard when i bowed my head... i had to see what he was upset about.

funnily enough he is on my shoulder / back now and is fine and playing with my hair gently....

he is confusing me....lol again tomorrow we might have 30 minutes of angry "neo" and i have to keep away from my face / head lol.

In my experience with my black headed caique...he goes crazy for hair, especially wet hair....I use to think it was cute and would let him "surf" in it...I think it was his way of taking a bath....I have sense stopped letting him play or surf in my hair because it became an obsession with him and it got to the point where he would bite me if I tried to take him away from my hair.....
Caiques are silly little things and can become very aggressive and have quick tempers. Good luck with your little one.

he seems to have got over being angry now when my hair is wet... generally a very happy bird always wanting to play.... can get over excited and beak / nip in play a bit hard but just have to jump on that and say key word "gentle" and he completely understands, otherwise playtime with me / anyone stops.

My little black-headed caique is not interested in my hair but my golden-crowned one loves to surf on my hair and tries to plait it and generally rolls about in it!!!:):orange:
