hi there! im new to bird keeping and i just got my lory last week. been doing my homework and from how i see it he seems totally fine. one thing im curious about is sometimes when i play with him, he shakes his head up and down, different from the slow, big head bobs i usually see in other birds, his are small, very fast shakes. like his head is vibrating lol he doesnt do this when he's alone, or doing the normal stuff them lories do. only during play, like he's rubbing his head on my hands. i cant seem to find any information abot this. hoping u guys can shed some light on this. thanx a lot!

from what ive been told he's only 3months old, he hadnt even change his beak color. do they show signs this early? if so, this behavior is common in what gender?

Video helps!
When bubs are hungry, they lean forward and bob their head and occasionally "flip" their wings. I couldn't find video of when you get closer to feed and they lean forward and head bob rapidly, but it resembles what the female does in the video below this video.

and here is a boy and a girl parrot doing their head bobbing... the female crouches forward and head bobs rapidly the way a baby would (she's begging/accepting food) and the male stands up tall and head bobs because he is regurgitating food :p

If your parrot is only three months he's still probably begging for food like a baby :)

It is a begging behavior! At 3 months old he is still quite young and just newly weaned. Are you giving him lory nectar?? What exactly are you feeding him?? When I got mine, he was just barely weaned at 2 months and he was constantly doing that. Giving him some nectar when he does it took care of it. He will always beg like that though even when he matures. Mine still does it even though he's over a year old now.

well now that u asked, im not really sure about it. the guy i bought it from tells me its kinda like an alternative for nectar as its difficult to find commercialized nectar where im from. the mix contains rice flour, brown sugar, (i forgot the other one), and this Ang mga resulta ng Google para sa http://tindahangbayan.com/images/IMG_1144.jpg its an infant cereal and i just found out it contains iron and zinc and i dont think thats good for the bird :(

There's quite a few bird suppliers in Philippines!!!! Contact them instead to see IF they offer any sort of nectar, otherwise there are sites that give you instructions on how to make your own. Right now you should fee fresh fruits and vegetables such as strawberries, bananas, apples (never feed the pit), kiwi, mango, pears, etc. And veggies such as string beans, snow peas, kale, broccoli, carrots, etc to just name a few. There are certain stuffs you should never feed birds such as chocolate, avocado, etc. as they will kill your bird. A lory breeder give me a item list once on how to make my own food but I have no idea where I put it, I know I have it but I'm not sure where....BUT please to try to contact one of the places in the link that I'm posting...

thanx a lot... the breeder told me that was what he feeds his lories, so i assumed it was fine. but ill check out the link :) thanx again!

Just have a watchful eye! I think as soon as you improve the diet a bit, it will pass. I have never seen my lory poop green....Here's a link I found to make home made food if you can find it in your area. I hope you've contacted some of those distributors I showed you yesterday.
